SUSTAINABLE STUDIO PRACTICE

I have just revisited my Sustainable Studio Practice.  This is a realistic studio practice that I can undertake.

My REVISED Plan

I will work in the Studio three hours a day for five days a week and I will keep a Studio Log to monitor.

I plan to work in the Studio normally in the Morning.

I will complete one artwork (minimum) per month and several small pieces.

I will set my Studio goals monthly and be accountable weekly and monthly.

I will create a ritual for the Studio - doing YOGA before I begin work.

As a reward (monthly) for working in the Studio I will go on an external Artist Date.

I need to think about the boundaries in my Studio(e.g. will I answer my phone? Take interruptions.

I like silence in my Studio!

Inspiration Casuarina Beach, Darwin Northern Territory

I have had frequent trips to Darwin and am inspired by the beautiful scenery in this city and region. I am particularly drawn to the beaches, sea and coastal areas.

Below are a series of six fabric postcards I made recently inspired by Casuarina Beach near Darwin.

The work below is 10 inches square and is also inspired by Casuarina Beach and shells.

Odlin Exhibition Lower Hutt New Zealand

We had a fabulous response to our Opening Night of the Cre8 Exhibition at the Hutt Art Centre, Lower Hutt, New Zealand.  Shaun and I flew over with my quilts and textile work and we had a great time catching up with friends at the Night.  Some photos of the Exhibition:

My quilts in the Exhibition based on Reforestation in Africa.  The quilts depict

EMBROIDERED PIECES

Worked on my own hand dyed and hand patterned fabric.

And the last piece I took over was an Eco Lamb Jacket.  We were each given a used Woollen Lamb Jacket from the South Island (NZ) and challenged to create a textile piece.  These are the works.

This  Jacket this is mine.  It is eco dyed using eucalyptus, banksia and other native plants from my friend Ali George's property.

The Exhibition is on until the 24th July.

Fabric Collage 7 and Dyed Fabric

I have been a little sick with sinus and chest infection but I am managing to do some more of my Fabric Collages - here is Number 7.  I had fun using bougainvillea petals sandwich between bonding agent and transparent chiffon.  The fabric I used is hand dyed and the other piece painted with salt used to pattern.  I did the collage in about 35 minutes once I figured out how to capture the petals. It is hot here in Brisbane so that was my inspiration!

Today given the lovely hot sunny weather I dyed some fabric as the base for hand printing layers for Aliquilts Fabric - my favourite colours first shown fluttering in the breeze, with reds and violet fabrics batching tonight.

till next time Rebecca
